Why Jesus?
Well, you have taken a very important step! You have realized that you cannot do this by yourself. You have probably tried many times and have failed. But you are finally on the right track. You see, your battle is not about using more of your own power or even about overcoming bad influences. Instead, it is a spiritual battle. In fact, the Bible teaches us that “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12). The only way to stop being a slave to sin, such as lust or pornography, is to reach out and rely on Jesus Christ. These are more than just words. When you need forgiveness, power and strength you go to the source of forgiveness, power and strength – Jesus. Let me introduce Him. Jesus, who was and is God, came down from heaven to earth in order to take the form of a man. And, yes, while He faced every temptation that you face, He lived a sinless life. He was able to be perfect because He was God and yet man. Why did Jesus become man and how is that relevant to me being trapped in sexual sin? That is not only a fair question, but the right question to ask! You see, we are all sinners. You and me. The Bible says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). It goes on to say that “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). In addition, God said that nothing impure can enter into heaven (Revelation 21:27). This is not good news. Because we have all sinned at least once, we are barred from entering heaven. But here comes the Good News! Jesus came down to personally pay the penalty for your sin. You may have heard before the common verse of John 3:16, which says: “For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” In fact, if you were the only person to have ever lived, Jesus would have still come down to die for you. It had to be that way. He loves you so much that He does not want you to perish (or to go on living without Him as part of your life). By living a perfect life, Jesus was able to be an acceptable sacrifice and substitute for your sin. When the death sentence is handed down for your sins, Jesus stands in your place. The penalty is paid in full. Because Jesus was God, He was able to rise from the dead and return to heaven to await those who accept the free gift of forgiveness and life. In short, Jesus agreed to pay the penalty for your sin upon His body so you could be spared what you deserve. Receive His healing and gain eternal life. How do you accept this free life-saving gift? The Bible says “if we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). To all who receive Jesus, to those who believe in Him, He gives the right to become children of God and therefore inherit eternal life together with God in heaven (John 1:12). This includes you and me! But you must personally ask for and accept the free gift of forgiveness. If you turn to Jesus and allow Him to wash you in His perfect holiness and accept His shed blood as an atonement (sacrifice and substitute) for your sin, you are no longer considered impure, no matter what bad things you have done (or will do). God the Father will not reject you because His Son, who now lives in you, already paid the full penalty for your sin. Right now, go to God with a surrendered heart. You will be asking Jesus, who paid the death penalty that was due to you, to forgive you and to enter your heart. Ask Him for His grace and mercy. He wants to give it to you. To ask Jesus into your heart and to accept God’s righteousness, pray something like this: God, I know that I am a sinner and deserve death. I know that Jesus is God and that He died on the cross to rescue me from the penalty of my sin. Please forgive me. I receive the free gift of eternal life, which comes solely from the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ for my sin. I pray and ask Jesus to come into my heart right now and to make it your permanent home. Take total control of my life. I choose to follow you and turn away from sin, including my former lifestyle. Thank you for loving me and forgiving me. I commit to following you forever. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen. If you prayed this prayer with your heart, then congratulations! You are free from the power of death! Jesus now permanently lives in you, and you are God’s child. His power is available to you, so turn and yield your entire life to Him. Now the journey begins; but it is not one you go alone! A wonderful byproduct of having an intimate relationship with God is the experiencing of victory over sins, including sexual temptations. Jesus desires to take control of your life and lead you in His holy and pure ways. The power of the Holy Spirit is ready, willing and more than able to lead you victoriously, if you let Him. You must want to love and serve God more than your former selfish and prideful ways. You need to start hating sin, and hating it because it blocks your relationship with Jesus Christ. The healing process will take time, but God wants nothing less than to be right there with you during the struggle. He wants you to lean on Him, and to be a part of the process. Begin asking God what He wants you to do. This time surrender all areas of your life totally to Him. Tell Him right now. Your new life in Christ is about having a relationship with God and not about being religious or trying to earn love.
