Episode Summary
Very few people grow up in families that talk through sex. And very few are given resources to combat porn exposure or other sexually compromising experiences.
Lexie Smith was 11 years old the first time she was sold for sex.
As a kid, Lexi never learned about sex. This also meant she never learned how to identify bad “play” and how to say no to it. So, when some boys in her neighborhood wanted to play in ways that they’d learned from porn exposure, she was completely unaware, and so were the adults around them. At first, Lexi just thought it was play.
Over time, these boys began to sell Lexi’s body to other boys and men. Lexi disassociated from these experiences and her family never knew anything was wrong. Everyone assumed that the neighborhood kids were continuing to play innocently together.
Most of us think of sex trafficking as something that happens in distant lands. And most of us think of early childhood porn exposure as something that happens in other families or to other people’s children. But ignoring the possibilities of sex trafficking or porn exposure led to Lexi’s devastating childhood. Join us as we learn from Lexi and her story!
